Job overview

As part of the Digital team, you’ll report directly to the Digital Director and work closely with the creative team to implement, maintain and troubleshoot websites created for clients and internal projects.

Our primary platform is WordPress which you’ll be expected to understand, adapt and support to a very high standard. You will be knowledgeable in front-end development, including building custom plugins and bespoke themes from scratch.

You’ll keep a close eye on the WordPress ecosystem and ensure we’re taking advantage of the latest features and using secure and efficient solutions.

Quality is at the forefront of everything we do, so you’ll be expected to have a keen eye for detail and produce clean, professional and well-documented code.

Key responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret project briefs from the creative team, directors and clients.
  • Understand the client’s business objectives and reflect this within the UX/UI and functionality.
  • Take a design from the creative team and turn it into a responsive, secure and fully functioning website.
  • Suggest the most efficient and reliable solutions to meet and exceed project objectives on time and within budget.
  • Regularly maintain sites to ensure high performance, availability and security.
  • Support clients and colleagues to troubleshoot website or hosting issues and go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly update project management tools and ensure you communicate with colleagues and customers on the status of your tasks and project milestones.

Required knowledge, skills & abilities

  • Exceptional understanding of WordPress core functions and theme/plugin architecture, ideally 3+ years experience.
  • Expertise in WooCommerce, ACF and Gravity Forms.
  • Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and PHP.
  • Expertise in Google Core Web Vitals to deliver compliant, fast user experiences.
  • Expertise in responsive web design and frameworks such as Bootstrap.
  • Expertise in how to interact with RESTful API’s and formats (JSON, XML etc).
  • Experience with Gutenberg block development and React.
  • Familiar with MySQL and database structures.
  • Familiar with server-side tasks such as CLI and CRON.
  • Familiar with Linux-based hosting platforms, PHP configuration & SSL setup.
  • Familiar with DNS and domain configuration.
  • Familiar with Adobe XD.
  • Understand basic technical SEO requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
